INANUNSYO kahapon ng Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas na di na matutuloy ang pampinaleng window ng Fiba Asia Cup Qualifiers na nakatakda sa Pebrero 17 sa Doha, Qatar.
Ang kanselasyon ayon sa SBP ay mula sa kalatas ni FIBA Executive Director-Assis Hagop Khajirian na ipinapaalam sa lahat ng konsernado sa Group A B at E ang pinakahuling impormasyon mula Ministry of Public Health ng Qatar na nag-atas ng kanselasyon ng mga nakatakdang sports events dahil sa tumataas na bilang ng tinatamaan ng Covid19 sa bansa.
“The SBP is saddened by the development especially because we know the kind of work that our Gilas Pilipinas Men’s pool has done in Calamba.,”pahayag ni SBP president Al Palilio. “The players and coaching staff have all sacrificed so much in this processas they’ve been apart from their families to represent the Philippines against South Korea and Indonesia.We were looking forward to see them perform because we know that a lot of Filipinos draw inspiration from them as well during these difficult times.
Nakatakda sanang tumulakpatungong Qaar ang Gilas Pilipinas bukas nang gabi matapos ang kanilang pampinaleng workout sa teaining camp kahapon sa Inspire Sports Academy sa Calamba Laguna sa pangunguna ng kanilang team captain na si Kiefer Ravena.
“ Although we are saddened by the situation, we also understand the predicament faced by the Qatar Basketball Federation as they had no choice but to follow the mandate of their government”, ani Panlilio.
“These are extraordinary times and we can only do our best given the hand we are dealt.We thank our Qatari friends for their willingness to host our group given the short notice and we are hoping the rise of Covid-19 cases in their country ceases soon”.
