NAPANATILI ni Philippine youth chess team standout Al-Basher “Basty” Buto ang tangan na titulo matapos muling magkampeon sa 3rd Jessie Villasin Cup online chess tournament na ginanap via Lichess.org nitong Biyernes, Marso 19, 2021.
Ang 11-year-old wunderkind mula Faith Christian School sa Cainta, Rizal ay malakas na sinimulan ang kanyang kampanya at naging maganda ang pagtatapso para iksubit muli ang korona ng kiddies division na may nakamadang 6 points sa seven-round rapid tilt (five minutes plus five seconds increment time control).
“I didn’t look to defend my title, just to play my best,” Wika ni Buto na kasama sa kumatawan sa national team sa 2020 FIDE Online World Cadets and Youth Rapid Chess Championships.
“I knew that this was a tough tournament with all the players. I just tried to play my best and now I am really happy,” giit pa ng grade 5 pupil Buto na tubong Marawi City.
Magkasalo naman sina Christian Tolosa ng Imus, Cavite at Arnel Mahawan Jr. ng Talacsan, San Rafael, Bulacan sa second at 3rd na may tig 5 points.
Nasa fourth hanggang seventh places sina inaugural winner Ivan Travis Cu ng San Juan City, Oshrie Jhames “OJ” Reyes ng Dila-Dila, Santa Rita, Pampanga, Gabriel Ryan Paradero ng Pasig City at Yosef Immanuel Morada ng Tuguegarao City na may tig 4.5 points.
Pasok din sa top 10 na may tig 4 points sina Quarl Maverick Vera Cruz ng Balingoan, Misamis Oriental, Aldrich Milan Dela Rosa ng Aklan at Vhea Ashley Silvano ng Canlaon city,Negros oriental.
