LUMIPAD na ang national team kasama ang Tokyo Olympics-bound Eumir Marcial patungong Dubai para sa 2021 ASBC Elite Men and Women Boxing Championship.
Nag training si Marcial ng isang buwan sa kanyang bayan sa Zamboanga City kasunod ng kanyang pagdating mula sa Los Angeles sa US.
Ang focus ngayon ay Tokyo Olympics, at ang ASBC meet ay magsilbing acid test para kay Marcial habang ang ibang top boxers sa region ay makakalaban nya sa 75kilogram weight category.
Ang event ay nakatakda sa Mayo 21 to June 1.
“It’s Olympic style boxing so of course it’s good prep for him,” Wika ni Ed Picson, the Secretary-General of the Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines (ABAP).
Nasungkit ng 25-anyos Marcial ang spot sa Tokyo Olympics nakaraang taon,bago nag desisyon na umakyat sa pro nang lumagda ng kontrata sa MP Promotions ni boxing legend Senator Manny Pacquiao.
Sa kanyang unang pro fight sa middleweight division nakaraang December 16, si Marcial ay nagtala ng unanimous decision win laban sa American Andrew Whitfield sa Microsoft Theater sa LA.
Maliban kay Marcial, sasabak din sa ASBC sina Mark Lester Durens (49kg) Marvin Tabamo (52kg)Junmilardo Ogayre(56kg) Jere Samuel Deka Cruz (60kg) at John Paul Panuayan (60kg).
Sa women’s division, kakasa sina Josie Gabuco (48kg) at Maricel Dela Torre (60kg).
Ang mga kasamang ABAP coaches at officials, ay sina men’s coaches Roel Velasco,Joegin Ladon at Marcus Jarwin Manalo,at women’s coaches Mitchel Martinez at Ludy Therese Ceriales.
“It’s exposure for boxers who have not had competition experience for over a year. Everyone has a fighting chance. Of course, the experience of Gabuco and Marcial will serve them well,” Sambit ni Picson.
