PAPALITAN ni boxer Eumir Marcial si EJ Obiena bilang male flag bearer ng Pilipinas sa opening ceremonies ng Tokyo Olympics.
Si Marcial ay mag martsa katabi si judoka Kiyomi Watanabe sa Parade of Nations, na gaganapin sa July 23 sa Olympic Stadium sa Tokyo.
Sinabi ni POC president Rep. Abraham “ Bambol” Tolentino na mas maginhawa para kay Marcial na magdala ng flag na nakatakdang dumating sa Tokyo ngayong weekend.
“[Marcial] has the most flexible schedule before and after the opening ceremony,” Paliwanag ni Tolentino.
“We have already informed Eumir about his task and we are very thankful to EJ for understanding. He cannot rebook his flight anymore,” Dagdag pa nya.
Si Marcial ay darating mula sa kanyang training camp sa Colorado Springs sa United States at inaasahang darating sa Tokyo sa Sabado, anim na araw bago ang opening ceremony.
Samantala, si Obiena ay darating mula Italy ilang oras bago ang event.
“Because of protocols, EJ should be expecting delays at the airport and that would make it impossible for him to catch the opening ceremony,” Sambit ni Tolentino.
Marcial, na umakyat sa professional nakaraang taon, ay sasalang sa kanyang Olympic debut sa July 25 sa men’s middleweight round of 32.
Watanabe, na nakabase sa Japan, ay sasabak sa women’s -63 kg division sa July 27.
