Bong Go continues efforts to help uplift lives of the poor as he visits Trece Martires, Cavite to give hope and support to those in need

On Tuesday, July 11, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, adopted son of CALABARZON, personally led a relief operation for indigent residents in Trece Martires City, Cavite in collaboration with the office of Mayor Gemma Lubigan.

Having received significant support from the city in his efforts to help uplift the lives of those most in need of government attention, Go expressed his gratitude and assured residents of his dedication to public service.

“Ako naman, ang pwede kong ialay sa inyo ang pagseserbisyo ko. Sanay po ako sa trabaho,” Go stated during his message to the residents, promising to dedicate his term as senator to serving the people.

Go emphasized his always-on-call approach to public service, an attitude nurtured during his tenure with former Davao City mayor and president, Rodrigo Duterte. He underlined, “Umaga, tanghali, hapunan, kahit sa panaginip, nagtatrabaho ako.

Go also took the opportunity to commend the work of his peers in public service, such as Congressman Ping Remulla, Governor Jonvic Remulla, Vice Governor Athena Tolentino, Board Member Abeng Remulla, Mayor Lubigan, and Vice Mayor Bobby Montehermoso, among others present. He praised them for their dedication to assisting their constituents on the road to inclusive economic recovery.

During the activity held at the Barangay Gregorio covered court in the city, Go and his team distributed grocery packs, vitamins, masks, snacks, and shirts to 1,330 beneficiaries. The senator also gave away bicycles, mobile phones, shoes, bags, watches, and balls for basketball and volleyball to select recipients.

Additionally, the Department of Social Welfare and Development granted financial assistance to the qualified beneficiaries.

In his address, Go also underscored the importance of continuously improving the health sector in the fight against COVID-19 and other health threats. He advised the public for the continued use of face masks whenever possible and encouraged them to get vaccinated when eligible, including booster shots.

As the Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go reminded residents to avail themselves of the services provided by the Malasakit Centers in the General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital in the city, and Southern Tagalog Regional Hospital in Bacoor City.

The Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which Go principally authored and sponsored, brings together various government agencies, including DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, under one roof to provide a convenient process for availing medical assistance particularly for poor and indigent patients in public hospitals.

To date, there are 158 Malasakit Centers nationwide which have already served over seven million Filipinos according to the DOH.

Go also mentioned the recently passed Regional Specialty Center bill, which he principally sponsored and co-authored in the Senate and is now awaiting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s signature before being enacted into law.

The Act will establish specialty centers in regional DOH hospitals, each focusing on a unique specialty. These centers will make services typically available only in Metro Manila, such as those offered by the Heart Center, Lung Center, and the National Kidney and Transplant Institute, more accessible in other regions.

The establishment of specialty centers is among the health-related legislative agenda contained in the Philippine Development Plan 2023 to 2028.

Go also explained his advocacy of establishing more Super Health Centers nationwide, describing them as medium-type polyclinics that can offer services like database management, out-patient, birthing, isolation, isolation, diagnostic (laboratory: x-ray, ultrasound), pharmacy and ambulatory surgical unit.

Other available services are eye, ear, nose, and throat (EENT) service, oncology centers, physical therapy and rehabilitation center, and telemedicine, where remote diagnosis and treatment of patients will be done.

“Iyan ang pamamaraan na ilapit natin ang serbisyo medikal sa ating mga kababayan. Iyan ang Super Health Center,” he highlighted.

Through the collective efforts of fellow lawmakers, sufficient funds had been allocated for 307 Super Health Centers in 2022 and 322 in 2023. DOH, the lead implementing agency, identifies the strategic areas where they will be constructed.

In the province, Super Health Centers will be established in the cities of Bacoor, Imus, General Trias, Tagaytay, and Dasmariñas. Such centers will also be constructed in the towns of Alfonso, Carmona, Magallanes, Tanza, General Mariano Alvarez, Rosario and Kawit.

Go, who also serves as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, has likewise supported various road improvements in the cities of Cavite, Dasmariñas, General Trias, Imus and Tagaytay; rehabilitation and improvement of the municipal fire station in Noveleta; rehabilitation of covered courts in various barangays in General Trias City; acquisition of ambulance units for the local government of Indang and Trece Martires City; and the improvement of a sports facility in Cavite State University in Indang.

Concluding his speech, Go voiced his appreciation for the local community, reminding them of the importance of compassion and unity in achieving inclusive development.

(CESAR MORALES)
